What Makes It Special
A Hands-On Journey Through Costa Rican Cacao
Throughout the tour, you will discover the intricate art of chocolate making and learn about the cultural and social impact of cacao in history.
Hands-On Discovery
Take part in the cacao journey through sensory, practical, and creative moments — opening the pod, grinding the beans, and molding your own bar.
Shared by the Family
Experience cacao through the stories, knowledge, and hospitality of the Two Little Monkeys family — Ismael or Lindy leads every group in person.
Rooted in the Farm
Discover chocolate in the place where cacao grows — the same trees that supply every bar the farm makes become part of your visit.
What Guests Do
Everyone Gets Their Hands In It
Small groups gather under the open-air rancho for a short orientation, then walk the farm together before splitting cacao pods open by hand. From there, everyone grinds, molds, and decorates a bar of their own — kids included.

The complete process
What you actually do, stage by stage
Five real stages, walked in order — every one of them something you do yourself, hands-on from start to finish.
Chapter One • Cacao Begins Here
Walk the Organic Cacao Orchard
The morning starts with a walk through the organic farm itself — cacao trees growing alongside exotic fruit and spices, exactly as they do the rest of the year. Ismael or Lindy leads the walk in person, showing you the living ecosystem and the same trees that supply every single bar the farm makes.
Chapter Two • Inside the Pod
Open & Taste Fresh Cacao Fruit
You open a fresh cacao pod straight from the tree with your own hands, then taste the fresh white pulp surrounding the beans before it ever becomes chocolate. Most guests are surprised by its bright, tropical flavor — this is the real pod-to-bean transition experienced up close.
Chapter Three • Ancient Craft
Traditional Volcanic Stone Metate
Roasted cacao beans are ground by hand on an authentic volcanic-stone metate, using ancestral techniques and recipes to prepare two traditional Costa Rican chocolate drinks. This stage is 100% hands-on — you do the stone grinding yourself.
Chapter Four • Make by Hand
Mold & Custom Decorate Your Bar
You mold, temper, and decorate a chocolate bar with your own hands, selecting your toppings and design before it sets. This is the custom artisan bar you personally shaped, and the one you take home with you at the end of the visit.
Chapter Five • Farm Finale
Traditional Trapiche & Cane Juice
While your chocolate bar sets, the morning closes at the farm's traditional trapiche — pressing fresh sugarcane and tasting the sweet juice straight from the press.
