The complete experience
What you'll do, step by step
5 steps of the journey, each with a new activity to bring you closer to chocolate.
Step one
Open & taste fresh cacao fruit
Your tour starts by cracking open a fresh cacao pod to see, taste and smell cacao in all its forms before it becomes chocolate; direct from the fruit, to fermented and roasted beans and even cacao butter for your skin. Most people are surprised to learn that the fresh white cacao pulp tastes nothing like chocolate! In this discovery session, you will be introduced to the history of cacao and chocolate in a fun and interactive way and take home new knowledge, a greater appreciation for chocolate, and the tools to become a more informed and conscious chocolate consumer.
Step two
Grind cacao & make two drinks
Roll up your sleeves, this is where the action begins! Try your hands at grinding cacao nibs using both a traditional grain grinder as well as a historic stone metate. As you work, the rich and intoxicating aromas of cacao are released and will really get your mouth watering. The cacao paste you create will then become the star ingredient in two very different cacao drinks: a powerful traditional "drink of the warriors" and a comforting cup of hot chocolate, your favorite classic just kicked up a notch!
Step three
Make your own chocolates
Now it's time to get creative! Using a variety of milk, dark, and white chocolate, you'll make and decorate your very own chocolate bonbons by hand. Choose your favorite toppings to add your own decorative touches, you'll create bonbons that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Vegan chocolate options are also available. You can take these chocolates home as a sweet reminder of your cacao adventure (although chances are they won't last long!).
Step four
Press your own sugarcane juice
Work together and put your strength to the test! Two people at a time will take turns operating the trapiche to squeeze every drop of sweet, fresh sugarcane juice from the stalks. It's a fun and energetic way to experience a traditional part of rural life. Once you've earned your juice, sit back and enjoy it with a splash of lemon for a wonderfully refreshing drink. Adults can add a little rum for an extra twist!
Step five
Walk an organic cacao & spice farm
To complete your chocolate experience, we'll guide you along the farm trails into the lush world where cacao begins its journey. As we walk, you'll discover cacao growing among vanilla, spices, tropical fruit trees, and a rich variety of plants and wildlife. Rather than growing in isolation, cacao thrives as part of a diverse ecosystem. Our farm is a living example of sustainable agroforestry, where different crops are grown together in a way that supports biodiversity, encourages healthy soil, and creates a more balanced relationship between agriculture and nature. This final walk brings the experience full circle, from the cacao pod you discovered at the beginning, to the chocolate you created with your own hands, and finally to the living landscape where it all starts.
What our customers say
TripAdvisor · Nicole K · July 2026Our family of 6 loved our tour with Two Little Monkeys. Everything was well run and organized. We learned so much, but they also did a great job of keeping everything interactive and interesting the entire time, even for my four teen boys, who can be a tough crowd to please! We enjoyed seeing the beautiful property and buying some chocolate and coffee to take home as gifts from the gift shop. Highly recommend this tour!
